Travelling is part of this role as we have depots across the UK. Therefore, you must have a full, valid UK driving license and your own transport.

About the role of Quantity Surveyor

The purpose of this role is to support the Regional Commercial Manager in delivering and exceeding the budgeted performance, providing the relevant information to the Commercial and Senior Leadership Team in preparing annual budget forecasts for our Severn Trent Water Contract which is delivered by Retford and Warrington.

You will be responsible for the submission of monthly valuations, providing cost substantiation, preparation and submission of EWN & CE’s as well as attending regular meetings with the client and supply chain partners.

Travelling is part of the Quantity Surveyor role as we have depots across the UK. Therefore, you must have a full, valid UK driving license and your own transport.

Responsibilities of a Quantity Surveyor


  • Provide accurate and reliable data to the Regional Commercial Manager to complete the month end reporting, to deadline.
  • Oversee and manage the commercial aspects of the Highways England SDF Area 1 & 2 contract, including flagging any data against KPI’s.
  • Work with the Credit Control Team to ensure the timely collection of cash and negotiate with Clients over any disputes / late payments.


  • Manage the budget for contract and report for Regional Commercial Manager quarterly against progress.
  • Subcontractors Applications are checked and verified before approving for payment.
  • Ensure value is maximised on contract and records are kept backing up claims
  • Attend Early warning and dispute resolution meetings with the client.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate billing of all work carried out within the region, ensuring that client specified application/invoice dates are met. Manage the Early Warning and Compensation Event process as set out in the NEC form of Contract (or as amended by our clients T&C’s).
  • Be responsible for preparation of target costs for our client through in contract pricing.
  • Agree final accounts whilst managing commercial risk against Pain/Gain
  • Work with Commercial Administration to ensure documents and back up to applications are collated and correct. 

What good looks like for a Quantity Surveyor:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • 2 to 3 years’ experience in Quantity Surveying
  • Excellent negotiating Skills.
  • Has a good understanding of the NEC form of contract
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of software. (Excel test at interview)
  • Confident to work with a IT/Digital system led solution to commercial management.
  • Understanding of management accounts and financial reporting processes (training given)
  • Good communicator and team worker. Confidently able to deliver presentations to clients.
  • Ability to build new and existing relationships with Clients and suppliers.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

We would also appreciate it if you have:

  • Knowledge and experience of Temporary Traffic Management.
  • Previous demonstrable, experience in quantity surveying
