About the role:
This is a key role within the Southern Region of our business. You will oversee regional activities, including expanding client base and the delivery and development of the business. This is a new and varied role covering all bases, from meeting with clients, maintaining and creating new relationships to briefing and leading your operatives.
Whilst building and leading your team, you will ensure all operatives are suitably trained and competent of delivering their work safely and efficiently, briefing them with current safety alerts and toolbox talks. You will also conduct appraisals and access any training requirements, providing clear direction and motivation. You will also be required to hold regular team meetings and liaise with the Senior Management Team.
Health and Safety is paramount to your role. You will conduct site visits, to ensure they adhere to safe working procedures and all Health, Safety Quality and Environmental policies are implemented. You will also ensure all vehicles; plant & machinery are fit for purpose. The writing of Risk Assessments, Method Statements, along with assisting in the preparation of tender documents and the pricing and co-ordination of works will also be under your remit. You will work alongside the Business Development team to identify and secure new opportunities.
Financially aware, you will drive productivity and take overall responsibility for profit and loss for the depot's activities. You will monitor all purchases of equipment and consumables and will look at other cost saving techniques, including in helping to recruit and retain staff to minimise agency labour cost and increase skilled teams. In addition to this you will be expected to present data to the Regional Director, and relevant departments, on a timely basis as well as carrying out any other appropriate duties.
You will be confident with both new and existing clients and will drive the introduction of our Highways Services division, engaging with clients to identify new business opportunities and dealing with customers and new orders.
The role will be based from our depot in West Oxfordshire, travel to other depots will be required.
You are a highly motivated, confident individual, with extensive knowledge of the Soft Estates industry. An excellent communicator and team worker, you are proficient in the use of a PC and the use of Microsoft office software. Adaptable and flexible, you work well in everchanging situations and in a fast-paced environment. You thrive establishing dynamic working relationships with suppliers, customers and colleagues, forging relationships built on trust and delivery. Communicating ideas to improve efficiencies and enhance margin come naturally as well as offering ideas to aid depot growth and development.
Qualifications & Skills:
•5 Years+ demonstrable experience of the Soft Estates industry either practical Arboriculture/Landscape experience and experience of working in the highway maintenance sector
•Local knowledge of the region's soft estates and maintenance market, particularly Highways England, local authority highway maintenance and utilities highways works
•Basic commercial understanding, with relevant capability to expand knowledge
•Proficient in the use of a PC, Microsoft Office suite of software and ability to work with other business management systems
•An open mind to new innovations and their application
•An ability to network and create new business relationships
•Essential to have the interpersonal skills to be able to interface successfully with a wide range of people both within and outside the company
•Relevant Lanta Sector Scheme qualifications
•Attended and passed IOSH Managing Safely/SSSTS/SMSTS or equivalent
•Have all round technical understanding of activities involved within business area and working within guidance & legislation
•Industry contacts within the Soft Estates Sector
•Understanding and delivering stakeholder requirements
•Full UK driving licence
•Competent in the use of Landscape design CAD Software
•Other formal commercial or business management qualifications
•Evidence to support process driven capabilities
•Entrepreneurial experience running his/her own business
•Further education in Horticulture or other related facilities management services
